Ana Cristina Fazza (Post-Doc)
Since July, 2010 for her PhD thesis she has been studying the phylogeographic pattern from endemic passerine birds from the endangered Brazilian Atlantic forest. Her research aims to understand the evolutionary phylogeographic patterns of lowland passerines from Atlantic forest. She will use mitochondrial and nuclear DNA data in order to compare two species: Dendrocincla turdina (Dendrocolaptidae) and Drymophila squamata (Thamnophilidae) and try to determine the dominant processes that could have shaped their genetic distributions.

Claydson Assis (Post-Doc)
Claydson started in the lab as a postdoc in November 2014. He is interested in evolutionary biologist, Systematics and Biogeography for studied pattern and process of evolutionary diversification of birds. His project is to unveil the processes associated of historical connections between the Amazon and the Atlantic forests based on the biogeographic study of two avian genera of Cotingidae (Xipholena and Cotinga) using second generation sequencing methods.

L. Maria E. Svensson Coelho (Post-Doc)
Maria is interested in how coevolutionary and community dynamics of the avian malaria system vary geographically. She studies differences in community organization between the tropical and temperate region and how host phylogeographic structure relates to that of their malaria parasites. In her work she relies heavily on molecular tools and also has a general interest in phylogenetics.

Andressa Nuss (PhD Student)
Andressa is interested in understand diversification and historical demographic process using as a model Myiothlypis leucoblephara, Myrmoderus loricatus and Myrmoderus squamosus, endemic birds of Atlantic Forest. She aims to describe the phylogeographic pattern of those species comparing nuclear and mtDNA with Next Generation Sequencing data that will be generated in her Phd tesis.

Carla Haisler Sardelli (PhD Student)
Carla is interested in understand patterns and processes of diversification of Neotropical birds. She aims to reconstruct the evolutionary history of taxa endemic with disjunctions distribution between the biomes Atlantic and Amazon florest including the divergence times of lineages to then test hypotheses about the processes that determined to the observed patterns today.

Erica Pacífico (PhD Student)
Erica's research interests are on bird population ecology and genetics. She is a PhD Student on Conservation Biology at Doñana Biological Station, C.S.IC. and Universidad Pablo de Olavide (Spain), working in collaboration with LGEMA. Her current project is an investigation of the deterministic and stochastic effects that may be acting upon the dynamics of the remaining population of the endangered Lear's Macaw (Anodorhynchus leari), an endemic species from the Caatinga (Brazilian tropical dry forest), using a multidisciplinary approach with molecular tools, ecological modeling, stable isotope analysis and indices of breeding success.

Gregory Thom (PhD Student)
Greg’s research on phylogeography of neotropical birds aims to understand diversification and historical demographic processes in Amazonian lowlands and related Biomes. He is also interested in new molecular tools applied to phylogenetic and population genetic approaches. His thesis focus on comparative phylogeography of four Amazonian Antbirds lineages using high throughput sequencing methods to test diversification hypotheses and reconstruct a paleobiogeographic scenario for these lineages.

Rafaella Monteiro (Masters Student)
Rafaella is interested in Conservation Genetics, especially about birds. She´s a masters student and her objective is to obtain a partial genome sequence of Spix´s macaw to identify microsatellites and genotype at least 10 polymorphic microsatellites from the greatest majority of individuals of this species. This data will allow us to access the genetic similarity among individuals to recommend less closely related pairs for the captive breeding program.

Ana Beatriz Bueno (Masters Student)
Bia is interested in studying hybrid zones and understand how species are maintened as separate entities even under gene flow, including the selective forces involved in the process. Two species of genus Pyriglena (P. leucoptera and P. atra) occur in the Atlantic Forest and produce hybrids in the region of Paraguaçu river in Bahia. In her project she will sequence various segments of the genome of the two parental species and their hybrids to characterize genomic regions that differ between parentals and regions possibly associated with the maintenance of the species and analyze if there is and estimate the level of introgression in both species.

Manuelita Maria Camila Sotelo (Masters Student)
Manuelita is interested in phylogeography, phylogenetics and conservation. She aims to understand the evolutionary history of two bird species in the Brazilian Mata Atlantica (Pyriglena leucoptera and Pyriglena atra) as well the biogeographic processes that shaped the distribution of lineages through the reconstruction of the phylogeography of the species using sequence analysis of molecular markers.
